FIREARM TRANSFER POLICY

We will not be selling or transferring lowers or uppers or bolt action “actions” or anything that is not a complete rifle or shotgun, fired from the shoulder with a 16 or 18.5″ barrel legal to hunt with under NY Environmental Conservation Law. Please see this link: NEW YORK BILL A10504
Inbound Transfers:
We do not accept firearms from individuals. We only perform FFL to FFL transfers.
- If someone attempts to transfer something that is not New York State Legal there is a $75.00 handling fee
added to the standard transfer fee (Which is non-refundable). - If the item comes from a non-FFL holder there is a $25.00 handling fee added to the standard
transfer fee (Which is non-refundable). - Completed Inbound FFL Transfer Form
A transferred firearm(s) must meet all requirements of New York State and Federal law, and must be shipped with the following:
- an operational gun lock or case that works for that firearm (see more below).
- invoice or other documentation regarding the sale to the customer.
- a copy of the transferor’s FFL. (The transferring FFL will also need a copy of our FFL Certificate)
DO NOT SHIP FIREARMS VIA THE POST OFFICE.
We will NOT accept firearms shipped by USPS.
Any firearm arriving is subject to a $75 PENALTY and may be returned to the sender. We cannot guarantee the safety of firearms shipped via USPS.
It is the customer’s responsibility to make ALL arrangements with the transferring FFL, including delivery of required documents and payment of shipping costs.
You MUST inform American Arms of any firearm transfer prior to its arrival at our premises.
Please fill out THIS form BEFORE any firearms are shipped to us.
ANY SHIPMENT THAT ARRIVES WITHOUT THIS FORM BEING FILLED OUT IS SUBJECT TO A FEE.

Do NOT call to double-check your gun’s arrival. Please rely on information provided to you by your shipping company.
It is the customer’s responsibility to ascertain whether the firearm has arrived by contacting the shipping company, and to claim the firearm from us within specified time limits.
We will contact you once it is in our system. It will NOT be available the day it arrives.
LONG GUNS
- Long Guns MUST be picked up within 10 days of arrival on our premises (grace period).
- Long Guns NOT picked-up within the grace period are subject to a $1.50/day storage fee for every day after the grace period.
- Long guns NOT CLAIMED WITHIN THIRTY DAYS of arrival will be considered ABANDONED.
HANDGUNS
The FIRST handgun transferred to us (and not purchased from us) for the purpose of obtaining a NY pistol license is subject to a $200.00 storage fee; within the grace period (plus $100 transfer fee) while the customer is waiting to obtain the license. Each Additional handgun(s) in the same shipment incurs a $75 storage fee; within the grace period (plus $75 transfer fee).
NYS is now charging a $9.00 background check fee.
Because of the New York State pistol permit amendment process, handguns purchased as an addition to an existing gun license, will NOT be assessed a storage fee while the customer is waiting for the amended license (for up to 14 days)
- Handguns MUST be picked up within 30 days of our sales/receipt of the firearm for amendment (grace period).
- Handguns MUST be picked up within 1 year of our receipt of the sales/receipt for a pistol permit (grace period).
- Handguns NOT picked-up within the grace period are subject to a $1.50/day storage fee for every day after the grace period.
- Handguns NOT CLAIMED WITHIN THIRTY DAYS of our receipt the firearm will be considered ABANDONED.
Make sure you contact us if you are getting close to the end of the grace period to avoid fees.
We will NOT be contacting you, it is your responsibility to keep us informed on your status.
Storage fees will continue to be added to your purchase.
ABANDONED FIREARMS
Once a firearm is considered abandoned, we reserve the right to possess and sell the firearm at no further recompense to the customer unless they pay the storage fees associated with the firearm. Please see HERE for the current fee schedule (subject to change).
If a firearm does not meet New York State or Federal law, it will be returned to the transferring FFL at the customer’s cost and may be reported to the proper authorities. If a firearm is not shipped with a gun lock or gun case, one must be supplied by the customer or purchased from us before the firearm can leave store premises.
Outbound Transfers:
We do not transfer firearms to individuals. We only perform FFL to FFL transfers.
- Completed Outbound Transfer Form
- A copy of the transferor’s FFL. (The transferring FFL will also need a copy of our FFL Certificate)

Firearms will be shipped via UPS, FedEx or a similar insured, reputable carrier that provides tracking information to the customer.
We handle all paperwork, packaging, and shipping.

Please have insurance value in mind when preparing to transfer a firearm.
Please have your firearm boxed up, otherwise there will be a fee to box up your firearm.
By shipping a firearm to American Arms, it means that you understand and accept this transfer policy.
